Iowa may be known for its sprawling farm fields, but there are still forests where you can wander–on foot, bike or hoof! Originally I planned to visit Shimek State Forest for a fall hike, but changed my plans to a horseback trail ride, which made for a perfect little adventure within driving distance of Iowa City. If you’re looking for something fun to do outdoors within driving distance of the Iowa City area, put this on your list!
