I scream, you scream, we all scream for…
Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month? It’s true! You know, just in case you needed a reason to buy some delicious creamy, cold ice cream on a hot summer day…
If you’re a fan of soft serve ice cream, and you like to support local small businesses, Dane’s Dairy fit the bill! Dane’s, which is celebrating its 59th year in business during the summer of 2019 began humbly as the idea of an Iowa City-area farmer, John Dane, who didn’t like the prices he was offered to sell his milk to the bottling company. What started as a “milk for sale at the farm” operation grew into a a small dairy store selling milk, cottage cheese, and a few ice cream items. Eventually the Dane’s purchased a soft serve ice cream machine and their famous, fresh soft serve ice cream became the star of the show. The rest is history. Award-winning ice cream
Dane’s Dairy recently won #15 in Big Seven Travel’s “50 Best Ice Cream Parlor’s in America.” They serve a variety of frozen treats, but the mainstay of their business is soft serve, including: chocolate, vanilla, twist, cake batter, strawberry, and frozen yogurt blackberry. My personal favorite is the blackberry dipped in chocolate for a crunchy coating!
Location
Dane’s Dairy is a little off the beaten path, but that hasn’t stopped it from being a local Iowa City landmark and favorite for decades. Dane’s Dairy is quirky in is old-fashioned styling, and will likely delight younger customers with a variety of cement yard critters to sit on. With a drive-up and a walk-up window, Dane’s welcomes customers from 1-9:30 pm. Dane’s Dairy, which is open seasonally, is located at 1430 Willow Creek Dr., Iowa City. Check out Dane’s Facebook page here for up-to-date information on the business.
