North Liberty

A fast-growing community

North Liberty is the epitome of a “little big town.” North Liberty is among the fastest growing communities in Iowa and it is continually striving to meet the needs of its booming population in terms of infrastructure. North Liberty’s population grew 38% from 2010 to 2016, according to census data. One of the reasons for its incredible growth is its proximity to both Iowa City and Coralville, as well as its convenient interstate location between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, which makes it an ideal location for families who need to commute between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. North Liberty is a vibrant marketplace of forward-thinking businesses, retail, small businesses and dining establishments. Entrepreneurial-minded people are drawn to North Liberty because of the community’s progressive support of start-ups, city government funding of businesses that make their home in town and the entrepreneurial ecosystem that is being curated.

Even though the population may be booming, the people of North Liberty pride themselves maintaining a high quality of life. From a simple wave to a neighbor to easy access to world-class health care, arts, and sports, finding and maintaining the balance of “little big town” is vital to the community.

North Liberty was named one of the most playful cities in the county in 2015 for the fourth year running. The Playful City USA designation includes benchmarks such as outstanding parks, recreation departments, youth sports, playgrounds and trails. Outdoor recreation is a priority in North Liberty. The city maintains more than 20 miles of trails year round, has 245 acres of parks and 11 baseball and softball diamonds.

The community’s signature summer event is North Liberty Blues & BBQ, which has been celebrating art, food and community annually since 2007. It brings the best regional blues performers to North Liberty for free live performances, and draws over 10,000 people for free kids’ entertainment, live music, Iowa craft beer, and finger-licking BBQ of all styles. School Matters

Multiple Educational Opportunities

North Liberty is unique in that it is served by two school districts–the Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) and the Clear Creek Amana School District (CCA). District dividing lines generally fall along Highway 965–homes to the north are in the CCA district, while homes to the south are ICCSD.  Information about the ICCSD can be found here, and information about CCA can be found here. There are also other education options in town. Heritage Christian School is a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade inter-denominational Christian school. More information can be found here.

North Liberty is home to a new high school in the Iowa City Community School District, the long-awaited Liberty High School, which opened in 2017. Liberty is the third high school in the ICCSD, and its location in North Liberty has proven to be highly convenient for high school students in the area.
